Can't connect to Windows Update

computer infectionA couple of days ago I found out my computer had some sort of aids. Windows kept giving me a message that he was unable to connect to windows update and  he was having some other issues like not being able to post on forums.

So, I went dr House on his ass. Nope, it wasn't Lupus or anything like that. So I took another Vicodin and stood there pondering what possibly had invaded my computer.

I started with a complete virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials. It found some malware, but mostly not that harmful. So after that, I decided to get myself Iolo System Mechanic and I preformed a full system scan. It found a lot of registry problems, some malware and other issues. After fixing that, the problem of not being able to connect to Windows Update still persists. At this moment I kinda was like 'wtf', but oh well.. back to the drawing board.

Ok, now what. Google didn't give me anything good on 'Can't connect to Windows Update', so I had to keep trying for myself. At this point I remembered that I had this kind of problem a while ago as well., and that my solution back then was 'kill it with fire'. Or in other words, formatting the hard-drive and do a complete reinstall. This time I didn't want to go there.

Then I got myself MalwareBytes. And after a full system-scan while operating my system in safe-mode it found 16 serious infections. After I removed this, I rebooted in normal-mode and did another full system scan. This time it found 1 infection: Rootkit.TDSS.
I was like 'WTF is that shit?'. After some browsing on Google I found out that this kind of malware viruses are the more nasty ones. This sucker uses your computer in a botnet and opens it up for more viruses. It's kinda like living in the ghetto and not having a door in your house. So, my new friend removed this infection. But unfortunatly.. I still couldn't connect to Windows Update.

computer errorAt this point I was about to raise the white flag and say uncle. However, I found some more tools. After a scan with a script tool called DDS.scr, I found out that my computer had another rootkit infection called TDL3, also known as Alureon.
Yes, the son of a bitch is so nasty they even gave it a name. It's kinda like Al-Qaeda's cave. It's unable to be detected my most virus scanners, because of its cunning-ness.
So, now I needed to get this thing out of my harddrive. Google said that Hitman Pro is one of the few tools that is up to the job. So, after downloading the free trial version of this and preforming a full system scan.. it found the Osama Bin Laden of malware and killed the death out of it.

Then, after the needed reboot I once more tried to connect to Windows Update. Fuck yeah, success!

I never would have thought that curing an infected computer would give such a satisfying feeling. Feels good man.
